Scholarships

Cascade Writers has the following scholarship available for 2016 and 2017:

Reed Diversity Scholarship

Cascade Writers is excited to announce the Reed Diversity Scholarship! Donated by Jaime O. Mayer, this scholarship is aimed at writers of color who wish to attend the Cascade Writers premier one-day workshops. The scholarship will cover the cost of registration only. Lodging, food, and transportation are the responsibility of the scholarship recipient.

We will not be asking applicants to explain how they “qualify” as a person of color—we leave that to your personal experience, your conscience, and the knowledge that the writing community is a close-knit group. Therefore, applicants will not be required to submit a personal essay detailing how or why they deserve the scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded via a random draw.

However, applicants will be asked to submit a short (<500 words) essay describing who they are, where they are in their writing career, and what they’re looking to get out of the workshop. This is more so we get an idea of who is receiving the scholarship, and will not be used as an evaluative tool.*

Applicants may apply by sending an email to info@cascadewriters. Please include the essays in the body of the email, not as attachments.

***The deadline for scholarships is two weeks before the event you’ve applied for. Winners will be announced shortly after.***

Currently, there are scholarships for our November 2016, January 2017, April 2017 events, and one more that will be announced soon.

*Cascade Writers and Jaime O. Mayer reserve the right to remove an application at their discretion. This includes but is not limited to applicants that fail to follow the submission guidelines, troll the guidelines, or harass the administrative team.
